What makes Prayer works?
1. Prayer works because of what Jesus did
When we pray, we are applying Jesus’ victory through the cross, taking the rule away from Satan and establishing the rule of God. In that way, we stop the devil’s work and establish the Lord’s will.
2. Prayer works because we live God’s way
We need to walk in obedience to God’s laws. “Whatever we ask we receive from Him, that are pleasing in His sight” (1 John 3:22). Firstly, we need to love God with all our heart, soul mind and strength and love others as ourselves (Mark 12:30-31). Our privilege to pray boldly is rooted in our relationship with God and He has called us to walk as obedient children.
3. Prayer works because we don’t hesitate to ask.
Being bold isn’t stomping into the throne of God and demanding what we think we deserve but it is recognising that God wants to do above and beyond what we think is possible. This knowledge makes us courageous to ask God to do great things in us, through us and around us.
4. Prayer works because God has set it up that way
The way God works His purposes in this world is through people who believe in Jesus. God says that if we pray, He will move on our behalf and He will not only move, He will do what is impossible for us. God has assigned us free will and He wants to take charge of our part of this world in prayer.
What is the Prayer Ministry about?
Purpose: To actively encourage and promote prayer within the members of the church. By being open and responsive to the work of the Holy Spirit, we pray that God's love, guidance and healing power would be released for the benefit of His people and to His glory.
When we meet: Every 2nd Friday of every month
How can you play a part?
1. Join us in our monthly prayer meeting.
- Pray for each other. Jesus set an example for us on what to pray. He prayed for His disciples and for every generation to come that would follow Him. His prayer was that God protect and strengthen them as long as they were in this world. Jesus also prayed for those who would come to believe in Him through the Gospel message (John 17).
- Pray for our church- Use the church magazine or weekly notice sheet as a prayer guide. Pray not only for the events that are happening, but also pray for the leaders, those supporting them, and those who will attend.
4. Make prayer a part of your life, setting aside time to pray.
How to pray? (Using the ACTS)
1. ADORATION: Begin prayer by adoring God. Praise and worship Him. Hebrews 13:15: Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise-the fruit of lips that confess his name.
2. CONFESSION: Ask God to bring to mind any sins you may not be aware of so that you may repent and confess. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness I John 1:8-9.
3. THANKSGIVING: Give thanks and praising God for all He has given us and done for us in life.
4. SUPPLICATION: This is also known as Intercession. Asking God for His divine help to meet needs, solves problems, work in someone’s life, etc. “I love the LORD, for he heard my voice;
he heard my cry for mercy. Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live.” (Psalm 116:1-2)
he heard my cry for mercy. Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live.” (Psalm 116:1-2)
